WIND/Rain  & Safety considerations for stall holders

The majority of the markets mall space is not under cover.  If you intend to set up a stall at the Valley Markets CHECK THE WEATHER & PLEASE COME PREPARED with cover if it is forecast for rain and or with sandbags/ weights  if wind is forecast.  BCC and mall traders/venue operators do not permit Markets stalls to attach ropes etc to mall fixtures or buildings.  Tents, umbrellas, mirrors and racks etc can be safety hazards in windy conditions.

See below insurance requirements

Liability Insurance requirement

Be advised that as of the 22nd October 2005 all (casual and regular) stall holders must have and provide evidence of current PUBLIC LIABILITY Insurance for their stall as a condition of operation or trade within Brunswick Street Chinatown Mall Markets.

Please note that each stallholder is responsible for sourcing their own insurance via an insurance broker, as with any insurance.  Insurance is not provided or available from the Valley Chamber.  For further information/clarification please contact the office on 07 3854 0860.

NO MORE JEWELLERY or RETRO/VINTAGE/SECONDHAND CLOTHING

Preference for stall space will be given to operators who have a point of difference. ie NOT jewellery or vintage/retro/2nd hand clothing.

We currently have an abundance of Jewellery & clothing. If you are planning a stall at the markets and wish to sell these items you may be allocated stall space in Chinatown Mall.

Please note that this may effect casual stall holders who have previously traded in Brunswick Mall.

Non regular or casual stallholders
Stallholders who do not hold a regular stall position should meet with our markets managers in the centre of Brunswick Street Mall in Fortitude Valley at 5:45am,  if their stall is suitable they will be given a ticket.  You must be present & available for a ballot which is drawn SHARPLY at 6:00am on Saturdays . Managers make every effort to place all stallholders, however due to the very limited space available on the Malls, there is no guarantee that all non regular or casual stallholders will be accommodated.

PLEASE NOTE that we only provide space, no tables, tents etc are provided.  No goods are to be displayed on the ground, all products must be on tables or similar.

We would like to  remind casual stallholders that without a copy of their Public Liability coverage trade will no longer be permitted on either mall.

Allocations are made using a check ticket draw and are always subject to product suitability. Unsuitable products include but are not limited to:

  • Food and drink
  • New goods and/or services in direct competition with permanent retailers in the area.
  • Mass produced goods readily available in department stores or specialised industries outlets, e.g. kitchen appliances and computer& phone products.
  • Mass produced non original goods e.g. artwork, prints, clothing  & jewellery are not given priority for site allocation
  • Currently we do not require any new stall holders selling Jewellery (commercially or handmade) in the Brunswick Street Mall.
  • Traders selling goods which are abundant in one Mall will be encouraged to take stall holder space in Chinatown Mall.
